What is Swadhayan

The mediations of and by the Self.

But what is- to meditate?
A written or spoken discourse expressing considered thoughts on a subject.
Simply put, to think deeply about (something).

All that we hear about clearing the mind, being devoid of thought and silence is simply the obvious result of a good meditation.
To focus, chanting and sleeping are ways to get into meditation.

Let me explain with the aid Patanjali’s yoga-sutra (pronounced “Yog” ant yogA)
The act of meditation takes place in 3 stages,
1. Dharana- where we still the mind onto a singular object, idea, thought, image, chant etc. It is the stage where thoughts come and go, and your goal is to engross your ever- wavering mind onto One singular object or act of focus.
2. Dhayan – Stage of complete engrosses, like a laser focus, where everything else disappears but the idea or the act. This is the popular “flow” state. Slightly beyond and well within the rang of Dhayana is a point where you become one with the object. There is no observer and the object of observation. There is just the process of observing.
3. Samadhi- Dhayana slowly culminates into the final stage where there is just one “Being”, the awareness. It is a high of pure bliss and joy, something that words fail to capture and sounds fail to communicate.

Swadhayan is the meditation upon oneself, as the object observed, grounding you.
Swadhayan is also meditations done by the self onto the objects of the world, the mind and wildest ends of imaginations, abstract and ethereal, taking you beyond yourself.

And it is through this that I now write, blending Shree Krishna’s swadhayan in the form of the benevolent Geetaji, with my swadhayan as a culmination of all the wisdom I have had the privilege to grasp and share with you.

I could have called this Medications of Shruti,
but I am no Marcus Aurelius.
I am simply a mouthpiece, an artist with infinite muses.
I am just a girl who loves to tell stories, share ideas and learn.
